MUNCIE, Ind. — The Ball State Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the nation’s first digital sports production program, Ball State Sports Link, have partnered to present the university’s inaugural student-athlete awards show, The Chirpies.
The Chirpies, sponsored by the Office of President Paul Ferguson, will air live from Emens Auditorium and exclusively online at ballstatesports.com and in the Sports Link Mobile App, which can be downloaded for free from the app store.
The awards celebration, modeled after The ESPYs, will also be shown multiple times across the state on Comcast Indiana 81 and on the BSU campus by watching Channel 57. The nominees are from the 2014 athletics calendar year.
Football’s Aaron Hepp, men’s swimming’s Conner Snare and Sports Link’s Allison Luthman are the hosts, with red-carpet arrivals and doors opening at 6 p.m.
Fans and students are encouraged to be seated by 6:45 pm, with the live show beginning promptly at 7 p.m.
Nashville recording artist and Indiana native Corey Cox will perform live. Cox will be joined by women’s soccer’s Lauren Hall for a special performance to close the show.
A total of 11 different awards will be handed out Monday, including Female Athlete of the Year, Male Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year, the Cardinal Caring Award and the Comeback Award.
The inaugural Chirpies is led by SAAC Executive Board members Bethany Han (field hockey), Jarrett James (baseball), Ashlyn Rang (women’s tennis), Brooklyn Schumacher (gymnastics) and Conner Snare (men‘s swimming).
The Ball State Sports Link production is led by senior executive producer Drew Adamson, while seniors Torey Fox (audio), Braden Schlegelmilch (technical director) and Andy Wright (graphics) will be working their final Sports Link live production.
The mission of SACC is to ensure and enhance the student-athlete experience through promoting opportunities within the university, athletics department and outside community, while providing a facet to serve and protect the interests and image of the student-athlete.
How To Attend:
Admission is free and open to the general public and Ball State students. Doors to Emens Auditorium open at 6 p.m. The Chirpies begin promptly at 7 p.m.
