Ball State women’s volleyball senior Mackenzie Kitchel grew up in a sports family.

Her father Ted was a two-time All American and a National Champion in basketball for Coach Bob Knight at Indiana.

Her brothers played basketball. Her mother was a diver at UNLV.

However, choosing to play volleyball over other sports wasn’t Kitchel’s biggest decision. Choosing to continue her career at Cincinnati out of high school wasn’t her biggest decision.

Oct. 25, 2013 presented her biggest obstacle — and decision.

Ball State Sports Link has Kitchel’s journey before — and after — that fateful night.

Produced by Cory Stace and Drew Duff.
