Replay: @BallStateGYM’s Win over Bowling Green

Watch the replay on ESPN 3.

In a meet televised by Ball State Sports Link on ESPN 3, Ball State gymnastics finished its regular season Mid-American Conference competition Feb. 28 against rival Bowling Green.  The Cardinals captured a 195.250-193.650 win.

“I’m really proud of this team,” Ball State gymnastics head coach Joanna Saleem said. “It was exciting for them to come into the last regular season meet at home celebrating senior day. It is also exciting to see us score that well, when we still have room to improve. They were consistent and they didn’t give up and that’s why we ended up scoring a season high of 195.250.”

The team scored a 48.950 on vault, 48.875 on bars, 48.575 on beam and a 48.850 to finish on floor.

Denasiha Christian scored a 9.950 on vault, taking home first place. Teammate Sarah Obeyer stood second with a score of 9.825.

Tyler Bradfield, Morgan Landes and Megan Peters called the action on ESPN 3.

Angela Durkac earned a new career-high on bars with a 9.850 earning her second place on the event. Madison Howell and Jordyn Penny tied for fourth place with scores of 9.825. The score ranks as Howell’s personal best so far this season.

On beam, Baylee Bell and Jordyn Penny tied for first with scores of 9.750.

“It’s great to have a win before going into the MAC Championships,” Saleem said. “But it’s a little deceptive because every MAC competition that we have been to this year has been super close. Keeping that in mind, I think all of the schools in the MAC understand that the final outcome is going to come down to the last event. It’s exciting to see the level of competitiveness in the MAC because it shows that it is anyone’s meet.”

Sports Link will televise the MAC Gymnastics Championship at Worthen Arena March 19.
