ESPN’s Bob Holtzman has been added to an already growling list of presenters the 2017 Chirpies, Ball State’s student-athlete awards show live April 10 at Emens Auditorium.

Holtzman, best known for his NFL coverage on ESPN, will present this year’s award for Breakthrough Athlete of the Year.

The Ball State Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the nation’s first digital sports production program, Ball State Sports Link, will present the university’s third annual student-athlete awards show.

Chase Bryant, the 24–year–old rising star, top–flight guitar player and head–turning songwriter, will bring his high energy live show to Emens Auditorium April 10 as the headliner for the 2017 Chirpies.

The live show, which begins at 7 p.m. promptly and modeled after The ESPYs, is free and open to the public

• Ball State Student tickets are FREE at the Emens box office with a valid Ball State ID. Limit one ticket per student ID and four student IDs per person.

• The public may pick up four FREE tickets per person at the Emens box office.

Multiple awards including Female Athlete of the Year, Male Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year, the Caring Cardinal Award and the Comeback Award will be handed out.

Participating sponsors of this year’s event are BSU’s Student Government Association and University Program Board.

Holtzman joined ESPN in November of 2000 as a reporter based in Cincinnati, primarily handling stories that are featured in the network’s award-winning news and information franchise – SportsCenter, Sunday NFL Countdown, Monday Night Countdown, Outside the Lines, Baseball Tonight, NBA shows, ESPNEWS and others.

Prior to joining ESPN, Holtzman worked as a news reporter at WCPO-TV in Cincinnati, Ohio (1996 to 2000). Before WCPO-TV, he served in a similar role for one year at KCRA-TV in Sacramento, Calif.

Holtzman began his television career at KRQE-TV, Albuquerque, N.M. in 1994 as a field reporter. He has received numerous Associated Press and local writing/broadcasting awards.

A native of San Diego, Holtzman was graduated from Kansas University in 1993 with degrees in journalism and psychology.
