Sports Link Producing 2017 MAC Women’s Tennis Championship

Ball State Sports Link is producing this weekend’s 2017 Mid-American Conference Tournament LIVE on ESPN3 from the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center (April 26-28).

The three-day coverage, featuring 11 cameras on six courts, marks the first time MAC women’s tennis has been produced for ESPN3 and one of few college tennis matches across the country to be televised by ESPN this season.

Graduate assistant Torey Fox is the executive producer, with junior Cory Stace calling the action alongside former Ball State men’s tennis player Marty Reist. Junior Matt Craig and freshman Jack Kizer are also on the call.

There are six teams participating in the tournament; No. 1 Ball State, No. 2 Akron, No. 3 Buffalo, No. 4 Miami, No. 5 Northern Illinois and No. 6 Western Michigan. Two quarterfinal matches will be played Friday at 10 a.m., and 2 p.m.

Both Ball State and Akron earned byes to the semifinals as the top two seeds respectively, and those competitions are scheduled to begin Saturday with first serves at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. On Sunday, the title match will begin at noon with a trophy ceremony immediately following the competition.

Each match will consist of three doubles competitions and six singles matches.Whichever team reaches four points first will win the match and advance in the bracket. Once a team has clinched, the remaining courts will stop play.

The Ball State women’s tennis team won its second-consecutive regular season title with its come-from-behind, 4-3, victory over Akron last Saturday.
