Last week, Ball State Sports Link hosted the Ball State Sports Link Summer Camp (affectionately known by attendees as ‘#SLCamp2K17’), the first of its kind for the pioneering program.
The camp, offered in two sessions, ran attending high school students through an intensive three-day media workshop. Students were introduced to ideas and philosophies related to the industry, including the power of social media and the ever-changing media landscape.
Students were also introduced to the fundamentals of video production and feature storytelling through hands-on training with professional-grade equipment and presentations of award-winning features by their producers.
Guest speakers included Ball State Men’s Basketball Head Coach James Whitford and Mike Stevens of the Indianapolis Colts.
Students also engaged in press conferences with members of Ball State Football’s coaching staff, interviewed Ball State Football players, and directed players in a ‘candid shoot;’ utilizing the content to produce high-quality package videos, under the instructional supervision of camp staff.
The camp was instructed by Chris Taylor, Alex Kartman, Brad Dailey, and Tyler Bradfield of Ball State Sports Link. Sports Link students Kaitlyn Young and Adrian Jarding served as camp mentors.
Emmy award-winning producer Josh Blessing was a guest instructor of the camp. Blessing is a producer and editor with Gopher Digital Productions at the University of Minnesota.
