New Kids on the Block

Ball State Sports Link has become one of the most well-rounded digital sports production programs in the nation over the past few years.

With this, the desire and passion for new students entering the program continues to grow. A few of this year’s admitted students wanted to give a readers a look into their lives before they came to Ball State.


SCOTT ANDERSON 

Scott Anderson attended Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Ill.  Spending all four years in the school’s media department, Scott became very experienced with visual storytelling.

In the summer of 2016, Scott was selected as an intern for his town’s local television studio, NCTV17. Then in the Spring of 2017, the annual MMEA High School Video Festival took place. Out of 45 other entries, Scott placed second in the school promotion category.

Thriving behind the camera, Scott loved the creative environment established at his school. It’s for that exact reason, he chose to join Sports Link at Ball State. It was not because of the awards the program had acquired or the type of equipment it possessed. It was the culture of Sports Link.

Passion, desire, and selflessness is what he saw in the program and in everyone with in it. Scott finds himself about four hours away from home, but believes he has found another home, right here in Muncie.


DARIA BUSCHUR

Daria

Daria Buschur is a freshman from Carmel, Ind.,  who enjoys show choir, photography and football.

Working for her high school football team, she has continued in college working for the Ball State Football team as a member of its video staff.

She enjoys taking photos, filming videos, singing and listening to music. Daria chose Ball State because of its immersive TCOM program, close proximity to home, overall amazing opportunities she is able to be a part of, and is excited to be involved in Sports Link this year.

Her brother, Joey, was a member of Sports Link and now working for Gamecock Productions at the University of South Carolina.


NOAH COOK

Noah

Noah Cook grew up as a quiet kid with big heart and passion for the world of sports.

From as early as allowed, Noah played and immersed himself in all types of sports, loving just not the game, but the relationships that were brought with it.

Fast forward and it’s evident the same quiet, sports loving Noah persists. However, this time around, he pursues to tell the awestruck stories of those who play the game, rather than playing the game himself.


JARED FRANK

Jared

In his junior and senior year of high school, Jared took a student broadcasting class where he got experience with both live and post production.

By the end of his first year, he was the technical director for live broadcasts and became adept in Adobe programs such as Photoshop and After Effects.

Interest in Ball State Sports Link stemmed from a relationship with Chris Taylor established early in high school, and a desire to work with the best talent, staff and equipment that the college broadcasting scene had to offer.


SEENA GREIWE

Seena

Seena Greiwe is a graduate from Columbus East High School in Columbus, Ind. She was a three-sport athlete in high school and earned 10 varsity letters while competing volleyball, gymnastics and track.

Seen competed at the IHSAA State Tournament three times for gymnastics at Worthen Arena and also went to State once in track.

While being highly involved with athletics and other organizations in her school and community, Seena was also extremely active in her Radio and Television coffered at her school. She helped run a live morning news show every day and created numerous video packages for her community and school.

Seena won multiple awards for her work and she wanted a way to integrate her two loves together of sports and media into a career. When she found out about Sports Link at Ball State, her decision was easily made.

Along with the outstanding telecommunications department, she loved the people and the campus as well.


PRESTON HUSBAND 

Preston

Preston Husband is in his sophomore year at BSU. Husband is from Huntington, Ind., where he attended Huntington North High School.

Preston lettered in two varsity sports (baseball and soccer) and was heavily involved with FCA and the radio station at the school.

He came to BSU to further advance his skills in Digital Sports Production.


OLIVIA JANSEN

Olivia

Olivia Jansen is a 2017 graduate of New Albany High School in New Albany, Ind.

As a member of both the student-run newspaper and radio/TV station, Olivia was a sports reporter and photographer for The Blotter and a three-year play-by-play broadcaster for volleyball and basketball for WNAS New Albany.

Olivia was a national finalist in the categories of best website, best use of Twitter, and best pre/post game show at the 2017 IBS Awards in New York City.  She also acted as a media intern for Louisville City FC.

Olivia chose to attend BSU because she believes the telecommunications department is one of the best in the country and she loves the campus, the people, the athletics and the opportunities available through Ball State and Ball State Sports Link.


BEN KANE 

Ben

Ben Kane is a freshman at Ball State University, his number one choice for the TCOM and sports media programs.

A Pendleton Heights High School graduate, Kane broadcasted live events like football, basketball and baseball for the high school radio station.

He is an avid sports enthusiast along with being a huge Chicago Cubs fan.


SHAEMUS KREIDER      

Shaemus

Shaemus Kreider is from very far away.  Bainbridge Island, Washington is home, but he was born in Traverse City, Michigan.

Shaemus started the Bainbridge High School Radio Club with three friends in his sophomore year. There he broadcasted BHS football and basketball games, along with PA announcing basketball games.

Shaemus is excited to join the Sports Link team! Go Cardinals!


MADISON LOCKARD

Madison

Madison came to Ball State because when she first visited, it immediately felt like home.

Lockard started looking at Ball State for its soccer program, but then quickly realized what a great school this would be for her to pursue a dream in sports media.

Besides the success of the media programs, Madison really enjoys being on the soccer team and loves the group of girls around her.


JARIN MATHENY

Jarin

Jarin Matheny graduated from Huntington North High School in 2017.

He was a member of the Huntington North radio station, known as WVSH, for three years. Matheny broadcasted football, girls and boys’ basketball and baseball, mostly doing play-by-play.

His greatest memories come from traveling to broadcast games on Friday nights. Broadcasting games helped Matheny gain a love for telling stories while games were happening. Jarin decided to come to Ball State this fall because he believes Ball State Sports Link is one of the most well-rounded digital sports programs in the nation.

Matheny was also influenced by the success Noah Reed had during his years in Sports Link and continues to have in the broadcasting industry.


ZACH ROY

Zack

Zach Roy is a graduate of Hopkins high school in Minnesota. He has played hockey and soccer his entire life.

In June 2017, he officially established his own video production company.  He has done work with many different companies and athletes starting at the local level, all the way through to national and professional.

Through his work he wants to help brand and promote companies through visual content. Zach is a freshman at Ball State.
