Women’s Swimming Looks To Break Guinness World Record

The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team is set to participate in an upcoming tread-a-thon Wednesday, Sept. 27 in Lewellen Aquatic Center.

The team will look to break the Guinness World Record for the most people treading water at the same time in multiple locations by joining 35 other swimming and diving teams from across the country from 5-5:30 p.m.

The purpose of this event is to raise money and awareness in order to help prevent drowning. The money raised will go to the International Water Safety Foundation to help support programs to spread the education of how to prevent drowning.

Drowning is the leading cause of child death in Cambodia and 2,094 Cambodian children die from drowning each year. There are 2,877 children that drown and survive, but some suffer severe life-long brain injuries.

“We are excited to participate in an event to help raise awareness and funds to support the International Water Safety Foundation,” said head coach Kristy Patterson. “Together, we can help raise money for education to save lives and prevent drownings across the country and the world.  It’s a great feeling knowing there are so many college teams coming together for this cause, that share the same passion for helping to make a difference.”
