Bill Friedman, the coordinating producer of the National Emmy-nominated series The Journey on the Big Ten Network, will visit campus Sept. 16 for a workshop with students in Ball State Sports Link and digital sports production.
Friedman is the Coordinating Producer of BTN Originals at the Big Ten Network and is responsible for creating and managing the content for all of BTN’s original series.
During his visit, Friedman will conduct a features workshop on the art of storytelling. Few in the industry do feature storytelling better than Friedman’s team at The Journey. The show, which has both football and basketball editions each year, provides a cinematic, behind-the-scenes look at the faces and places from around the Big Ten Conference.
Friedman joined BTN one month prior to its launch in August of 2007, and has overseen the creation, launch and growth of the channel’s signature original program series “The Journey” — in addition he has developed other successful BTN original series including Big Ten Elite, Scarlet and Gray Days, Big Ten Icons, Forever B1G and Big Ten Treasure Hunter. Friedman also manages BTN’s feature stories and LiveBig initiative.
“The Journey” strives to highlight compelling stories of student-athletes and coaches not readily apparent from the competition on the field.
Prior to joining BTN, Friedman began his career in studio production at ESPN, where he spent the majority of his 11 years working as a producer for ESPN’s Features Unit.
A native of Evanston, Ill., Friedman graduated from Brown University in 1996 and currently resides in Chicago.
