Homecoming for the Cardinals was a success as Ball State defeated the Toledo Rockets, 52-14. Drew Plitt came prepared to make Cardinal fans proud going for 206 yards and three touchdowns.
“Winning is contagious,” Ball State head coach Mike Neu said. “It’s a great feeling. And we were determined to chase that winning feeling today. My hat is off to our football team. The chemistry, the hard work, the attitude, the effort. Just a great overall win for us.”
It’s no secret that Plitt is a gladiator on the turf.
During his 2018 season with the Cardinals, he received the Ball State Ray Louthen Award (Most Improved Player) all due to his hard work and dedication on the field and in the weight room.
With leadership running through his veins, this Ohio native has had a stellar 2019 season with the Cardinals.
With 16 touchdowns and 1,868 yards entering Saturday’s game with Ohio, it is obvious this QB will do everything possible to achieve his main goal — a MAC Championship.
Here is how Drew Plitt gets dialed in.

It is the most exciting day of the school year for Ball State students and alumni — Homecoming. Plitt rolls out of his hotel bed at 8 a.m. amped up for the big game against Toledo.
To prepare for battle, Plitt reviews his tips and reminders sheet his coach has created that allows the team to critique their game. This is also a method that allows them to answer questions about what they see in the game each week.
“For me my goal was to go out and help my team win in anyway possible,” Plitt said.
Before heading to the stadium, Plitt enjoys a big pregame meal. He indulges in a hearty plate of eggs, hash browns, a pancake with side of chicken. He then finishes off with a blueberry muffin.
Plitt remains calm and tries to stay loose to prepare for the game.
“I relax and try not to overthink things before the game,” Plitt said. “I don’t get too excited or overhype myself. I watch College Game Day to get a feel of what is going on around the nation with football.”
Plitt and his team load up the bus and head to the stadium around 11: 30 a.m. Everyone on the bus is in their own world trying to stay focused on their goals.
When the team gets to the stadium two hours before kick, they do the Cardinal Walk to the locker room. The locker room is filled with many different sounds and emotions, as music is muffled in the background.
Around 1 p.m. the team then heads out the the field to run routes before the game and do their pregame stretch.
The homecoming crowd is packed and loud as the Cardinals line up to start the big game against the Toledo Rockets. This crowd energizes Plitt and his teammates.
“We knew there was a lot more at stake with it being homecoming,” Plitt said. “We had to to block out the distractions and the noise. We were focused and confident.”
With a smile on his face and a MAC Championship on his mind, Drew Plitt is now dialed in.
Entering Saturday’s contest with Ohio, Plitt is second in the MAC in passing yards per game (266.9) and third in total offense average (276.4). He ranks 23rd nationally in passing yards per game.
