Cardinals In The Crowd (Feb. 1)

As Ball State Sports are in action across as many as 18 teams this spring, each week Sports Link will highlight five Cardinals you need to know.

Here’s this week’s “Cardinals In The Crowd”.


Oshlynn Brown – Women’s Basketball

Senior forward Oshlynn Brown posted a career-high 33 points to go along with 15 rebounds in the Cardinals 85-82 victory over Miami last Wednesday.

Brown also made history by attempting 26 foul shots, a program record. The Cardinal’s continued to roll last week, pulling off two close wins, making it four in a row.

Ball State heads to Central Michigan Wednesday Feb. 4 tipping off at 5 p.m.


Brandon Shepherd – Men’s Volleyball

Ball State made its home debut last week with two wins over Lincoln Memorial (3-0, 3-1). Junior outside attacker, Brandon Shepherd had a breakout game with career highs in kills (16), blocks (3), and aces (3).

Shepherd was a key contributor down the stretch for the Cardinals, including the final kill to give Ball State the 29-27 win in the final set.

Ball State begins conference play this weekend against Purdue Fort Wayne at home this Friday, Feb. 5 starting at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. Friday’s match will be televised on ESPN 3 by Sports Link.


Kia Holder – Women’s Volleyball

Ball State made quick work of Buffalo last week winning both matches on the road (3-0, 3-0) while improving to 4-0 on the season.

Outside hitter Kia Holder led the attack with 21 combined kills in the two matches. Holder also tallied a career high six blocks to go along with 14 kills in Friday’s contest.

The Cardinals look to keep their undefeated season alive at Toledo on Thursday, Feb. 4 starting at 6 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 5 at 4:30 p.m.


Arden Hudson – Gymnastics

Senior Arden Hudson and the Ball State gymnastics team started the season 2-0 last week.

In BSU’s first meet against Central Michigan, Hudson led the way finishing in first place in both bars (9.825) and beam (9.750).

Hudson followed that performance with two more first place finishes against Illinois State. Winning again on beam and improving her score (9.825), Hudson also showed improvements in her vault, tying for first-place with teammate Suki Pfister (9.825).

BSU returns to action this Saturday, Feb. 6 with their first road meet at Eastern Michigan.


Chris Adams – Men’s Tennis

Senior Chris Adams came through in the clutch not once but twice this past weekend in Ball State’s sweep at Cleveland State.

On back to back days, Ball State found themselves tied 3-3 with No. 3 singles Adams left in play.

Adams was able to edge out his opponent both times in the third set pushing to Ball State to a 3-1 record on the season.

BSU will take on Xavier this Friday, Feb. 5 at home.
