Ball State Sports Link, in partnership with Cardiff Met Sport Broadcast, has partnered to continue the Transatlantic Storytelling project with the first transatlantic college sports podcast, MetBall.
MetBall, the program name inspired by one of the United Kingdom’s biggest sports, Netball, combines both Cardiff Met University and Ball State University.
Students from both media programs host and produce the new series. Student-athletes from both universities will also be part of the collaborative episodes.
The podcast is a next step in innovative pedagogy and learning using technology, journalism and new platforms combined with global partnerships.
Each MetBall episode will focus on global sports news and how it has been covered on either side of the pond, a sports documentary discussion and a campus sports news round up.
Direct links can also be found through each program’s social media accounts — @bsusportslink, @MetBroadcast and @CMetSportTV.
Transatlantic Storytelling is an immersive learning, global storytelling project between students at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and Cardiff Metropolitan University in Cardiff, Wales.
In 2020, Ball State students collaborated with Cardiff Met students on identifying, developing and producing feature stories on Welsh athletes.
While on the ground in Cardiff, Wales, for 12 days in late February to March 2020, students worked together to capture footage, scenes and interviews with the athletes. Upon return to the United States, Sports Link students edited remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The overall Transatlantic Storytelling 2020 Documentary, which won three international awards, is a 76-minute feature length documentary
In 2019, Ball State and Cardiff Met agreed to a five-year understanding which recognizes the mutual benefits of an educational partnership, which in part will lead to collaboration, opportunities and faculty/student engagement.
