Cinematographer Kaline Schounce Joins Sports Link

Ball State Sports Link, the nation’s first four-year academic track in sports media and production, welcomes alumnus and industry professional Kaline Schounce to its staff in Spring 2025.

The 40-year industry expert and multi award-winning cinematographer, will teach a course in Sports Cinematography, followed by a class on Industry Techniques & Freelancing.

“I hope my enthusiasm, experience and expertise will inspire current and future students to learn and hone their own skills,” Schounce said. “Personally, returning to campus in an advisory role with Sports Link has been a dream of mine for many years. The timing is right.”

As Director of Photography on hundreds of projects across the world, he has collaborated with national networks at 20 Super Bowls, five Olympic Games, nearly 40 Indianapolis 500s, multiple NBA Finals and World Series, as well as PGA, Open Championship and U.S. Open golf tournaments.

Work as second-unit camera operator on NBC’s “Friday Night Lights”, Hollywood feature films “One For The Money” and “The Game Plan” are other examples of his varied and vast experience and expertise. Favorite sports to cover are Formula One, Indy Car, NFL and any golf tournament.

Born and raised in Muncie, Schounce is a graduate of Delta High School and Ball State University.

His work specialty is sports cinematography. Directing, producing and editing television and film content since his first job at WEAR-TV in Pensacola, Florida has enabled him to hone his overall skills.

Stints at WKYT-TV In Lexington, WISH-TV and WTHR-TV in Indianapolis, and IMS Productions (now the TV production arm of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Penske Entertainment) are also valuable stops in his career path.

“Kaline is one of the most sought-after cinematographers in sports,” said Senior Director of Sports Link Chris Taylor. “He’s been a tremendous friend and supporter of Sports Link from day one. In his many visits to campus as a guest lecturer, his expertise and advice resonates with students. Kaline joining us in a more formal way this year is transformational, especially for the cinematographers in our group.”

In 2004, Kaline founded P1 Productions Inc., a full-service production house based in Carmel, Indiana. P1’s client list includes NFL Films, NBC Sports, ESPN/ABC Sports, Fox Sports, Big Ten Network, NASCAR, Indy Car, NBA Entertainment and Notre Dame Fighting Irish Media. Servicing all those clients continues today.

Using Arriflex, Sony and RED camera platforms paired with Zeiss, Leica, Canon, and Fujinon optics enables P1 to acquire and deliver cinematically evocative images for all partners. Implementing drone, gimbal and dolly camera movement are also areas of specialty.

Schounce is based in Carmel, where he enjoys spending time with his family (when he is home), golf, music and keeping track of his favorite professional sports team from Detroit (not the Pistons).
