Ball State head coach Mike Neu instilled in his team long ago that just making it to Detroit was not good enough. He wanted his team to go in Friday night and finish the job that had been in the works for the previous 12 months.
Ball State clinched the MAC West Division title with its fifth straight victory and will play in the MAC Championship game Friday.
Ball State moved to 4-1 on the season and is set to square off with 4-1 Western Michigan at Scheumann Stadium with a MAC West Championship on the line.
