#SLFeatured 2016: The Best Stories in Ball State Sports

Ball State Sports Link welcomes 2017 with a look back at the best stories in Ball State Sports from 2016. Over the last year, Sports Link produced over 33 hours of programming focused on telling feature stories about Ball State student-athletes.

#SLFeatured: The Best of 2016 is an hour-long special with student producers and eight of their best feature stories from the year.

Included in #SLFeatured 2016 are stories on Trey Moses (basketball), Lexi Kavanaugh (field hockey), Payton Stonefield (football), Albert Jennings (golf), James Blackwell (golf), Leah Mattingly (soccer), Matt Eppers (baseball), Mitch Gibson (baseball) and Teddy Williamson (football).

As 2017 begins, Sports Link will broadcast four live events on ESPN3 in nine days from Jan. 12-18. The 2017 live production schedule begins Jan. 12 with Ball State men’s volleyball vs. Saint Francis.

In addition, #SLFeatured stories already in production — among many —  include Chase Jackson (swimming), Sarah Obeyer (gymnastics), Tayler Persons (basketball), Jill Morrison (basketball) and Roman Baisa (baseball).


In 2015-16, Ball State Sports Link produced over 6,500 minutes (108 hours) of digital sports productions. Included were over 4,800 minutes(80+ hours) of LIVE sports on ESPN 3 and over 1,700 minutes (33+ hours) of other/studio/post productions.

Combined hours of students and staff dedicated to digital sports production reached over 75,000 hours in 2015-2016.

In 2015-16, Ball State Sports Link and Digital Sports Production students produced 33 LIVE events for ESPN 3.

In five years, students in Ball State Sports Link have been awarded over 70 state or national awards for their work in sports media and production, including 11 student and professional Emmy Awards and 7 Best in College Sports Media Awards presented by the Sports Video Group.
